Mr. Zhang Ruimin, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Haier Group, once said that the people-alone model he created was deeply inspired by Mr. Drucker's ideas, and the development of Haier Group also verified some predictions made in Mr. Drucker's writings one by one, such as: the emergence of the Internet will eliminate the distance between enterprises and users; enterprises will disappear and self-organization will continue to exist; CEOs will disappear and each employee will become his own CEO, etc. Based on the profound origin of the people-alone model and Mr. Drucker's thought, Dr. Richard Straub, chairman of the forum, kindly invited Haier to deliver a speech for the opening ceremony of the conference, and held a special conference on June 29 with the theme of "The exploration and practice of people-alone: the pursuit of 'zero distance' and 'zero signature'. On June 29, Haier held a pre-conference workshop with the theme of "Exploration Practice of Human-Unit Integration: Pursuing 'Zero Distance' and 'Zero Approval '".

Rendanheyi's Quest for "Zero Distance" and "Zero Approval"

The rise of business ecosystems has empowered companies to respond to the growing expectations of customers in today's highly connected world. This was agreed upon at the previous Drucker Forum, but companies now need to further explore how best to manage in such an ecosystem. Professor Bill Fischer, Senior Lecturer at MIT Sloan School of Business, and Simone Cicero, Director of the RDHY Open Source Research Center and CEO at Boundaryless, co-chaired a two-hour pre-conference workshop on June 29th to discuss Rendanheyi's exploration practices in the global enterprise.

Emanuele Quintarelli, EEEO Micro-Enterprise Lead at Boundaryless, Jochen Goeser, Global Project Lead Agile Transformation at Robert Bosch Power Tools, and Rachel Murch, thought leader of organizational change for nine years at Zappos, shared their experiences. These three guests shared their rich experiences and stories as learners and practitioners of Rendanheyi principles, which precisely validate that Rendanheyi can be practiced not only in Haier subsidiaries in all cultures, but also that its principles represent universal values in the Internet of Things era and have been "intentionally adopted" by global enterprises.

Take Zappos, a leading U.S. e-commerce company, was acquired by Amazon in 2009 for its unique corporate culture of consistently delivering happiness through customer service. Four years later, under the leadership of former CEO Tony Hsieh, the company shifted from a hierarchical organization to a new organizational model with a reference to collegiality, where employees gradually understood the core concepts of self-organization, self-management, and goals and responsibilities. However, due to the excessive internal focus, Zappos later changed to a "market dynamic" model, transforming the organization into self-sustaining MEs and returning the focus to the customer. MEs operate like a company, with decision-making power and an independent profit and loss statement, and have begun experimenting with a team-based compensation system; services are provided in the form of contracts between ME teams and with external users, providing ready insight into user needs and scenario-based solutions.

During the sharing, Prof. Fischer also recognized Jochen's global project in driving organizational transformation at Bosch, saying: "I have worked with Bosch in the past, as has Simone, and we both agree that Bosch is one of the most bureaucratic organizations we have ever encountered. What Jochen doing at Bosch is like a breath of fresh air. The Rendanheyi philosophy has had a deep impact on his transformation path and we all want to see his efforts recognized and appreciated".

 Emanuele, one of the Rendanheyi practitioners, shared the different stages of the Haier Group's business model, strategic direction, and evolution of its corporate culture and architecture design from 1984 to the present. Dr. Straub, President of the Drucker Forum, appreciated on his personal Twitter account after the seminar, "Emanuele showed us the fascinating story of Haier and Rendanheyi". The seminar attracted more than 200 enthusiastic discussions about Rendanheyi and enterprise sharing from business users such as Josef Höckner, Head of Digital Transformation Austria, Fujitsu Public Services Central Europe, and Janka Krings-klebe, founding member of the IoT Business Ecosystem Alliance.
